Back Nine Golf Is Bringing 24/7 Indoor Golf to Naperville, North Aurora and Wheaton

NAPERVILLE— Chicago-area golfers will soon have several new ways to keep playing long after outdoor courses close for the season.

The Back Nine Golf is expanding into the western suburbs with locations planned in Naperville, North Aurora and Wheaton, giving golfers access to private simulator bays, professional-level swing data and, for members, the ability to practice 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The concept is less about replacing a traditional golf course and more about making practice available regardless of snow, rain, darkness or Chicago's long winter.

Three Western Suburban Locations Are on the Way

Back Nine Golf Is Bringing 24/7 Indoor Golf to Naperville, North Aurora and Wheaton

Back Nine's current Illinois location directory lists Naperville, North Aurora, Wheaton and Algonquin as part of the company's Chicagoland expansion.

Here's where the three western suburban locations currently stand:

Naperville

Back Nine Golf | Naperville, IL is planned for 1271 Rickert Drive, Suite 127.

Despite some information circulating that the location has already opened, Back Nine's official Naperville page currently labels it “Opening Soon.” Local reporting published August 11 said franchise owner Russ Dawson was targeting an October 2026 opening.

The roughly 3,000-square-foot facility is expected to open with three golf simulators.

North Aurora

Back Nine Golf | North Aurora, IL is located at 17 S. Randall Road.

The company's official site currently lists North Aurora as “Opening Soon” and is accepting founding-member registrations. No firm public opening date was posted when we checked.

The North Aurora location is also listed as a Cross-Play location, meaning eligible Back Nine members can use participating facilities beyond their home club.

Wheaton

Back Nine Golf is also officially listed as coming soon.

Back Nine has opened a dedicated Wheaton page and waitlist, but no opening date has been announced yet.

For Wheaton golfers, that would add another indoor option in a community already closely connected to the sport through local courses and golf facilities.

What Makes Back Nine Different?

The centerpiece is Full Swing simulator technology.

Instead of simply projecting a golf course onto a screen, the system gives players real-time performance information including ball speed, launch angle, ball flight, club data and swing analytics.

What Makes Back Nine Different?

That makes the bays useful for more than casual rounds.

Players can use them to:

  • Work on swing mechanics

  • Track changes in ball speed and launch

  • Practice specific shots

  • Play complete virtual rounds

  • Compete with friends

  • Join leagues or tournaments

  • Play interactive games with younger golfers

The simulators include recognizable courses such as Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill, Torrey Pines, TPC Sawgrass and multiple courses at St. Andrews.

Back Nine says an indoor 18-hole round can often be completed in roughly 45 minutes to an hour, depending on group size and pace.

You Don't Have to Be a Member to Play

The 24/7 model is one of Back Nine's biggest selling points, but the facilities are not designed exclusively for members.

The company says non-members can also book tee times, while memberships provide benefits such as:

  • 24/7 access

  • Longer or unlimited tee-time options depending on the plan

  • Guest privileges

  • Merchandise discounts

  • League and tournament benefits

  • Access to participating locations through Cross-Play

For example, North Aurora's booking page currently lists a public bay rate of $60 per hour, including one guest, with additional guests priced separately. Pricing can vary by location and may change before or after opening.

The simulators also include games geared toward children, including long-drive and putting challenges, giving families an option that does not require everyone in the group to be an experienced golfer.

Why Indoor Golf Makes Sense in Chicago's Western Suburbs

The timing is especially relevant in Chicagoland.

Outdoor golf can dominate a summer weekend, but once temperatures drop, daylight disappears earlier and snow arrives, the traditional golf season becomes far less predictable.

A 24/7 indoor facility changes that equation.

Someone can practice before work at 6 a.m., book an evening round after dinner or keep playing through January without waiting for spring conditions.

For serious golfers, that means fewer months away from their swing. For casual players, it adds another year-round entertainment option alongside restaurants, recreation centers, fitness clubs and other suburban amenities.

And that is part of a bigger lifestyle story for communities like Naperville, North Aurora and Wheaton.

People choosing where to live increasingly look at more than commute times and the house itself. They also consider what they can actually do close to home throughout the year.

New recreation concepts like Back Nine add another reason for residents to stay local for entertainment rather than automatically heading into Chicago or farther across the suburbs.

Find a Western Suburb That Fits How You Actually Live

The best suburb is not simply the one with the right house. Restaurants, recreation, parks, shopping, commute options and things to do year-round can have just as much impact on everyday life.
