Downtown Naperville Is Getting a Brand-New Holiday Celebration With Free Hot Cocoa and Santa

NAPERVILLE, IL— Downtown Naperville is adding something new to its holiday calendar this year, giving families another reason to spend Thanksgiving weekend exploring the Western Suburbs.

The inaugural Downtown Holiday Glow will take place on Friday, November 27, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m., bringing free hot chocolate, roaming entertainers, festive activities and a special appearance by Santa Claus.

Instead of arriving on a sleigh, Santa will ride through Downtown Naperville in a classic red pickup truck around 5 p.m.

Organized by the Downtown Naperville Alliance, the free celebration invites families to enjoy an afternoon of holiday entertainment while visiting the downtown district's shops, restaurants and decorated streets.

What Can Families Expect at Downtown Holiday Glow?

The first Holiday Glow is designed as a walkable celebration, with entertainment and activities spread throughout Downtown Naperville.

Visitors can look forward to:

  • Roaming performers: Jugglers, stilt walkers and other entertainers moving through the downtown streets.

  • Free hot chocolate: Complimentary cocoa to enjoy during the afternoon, while supplies last.

  • Free face painting: Holiday-themed activities for children.

  • Festive giveaways: Seasonal treats and surprises available while supplies last.

  • Santa's special arrival: A drive through downtown in a red pickup truck around 5 p.m.

Unlike an event centered around a single stage, Holiday Glow encourages visitors to explore the downtown area while enjoying the entertainment.

Families can stop at local shops, take photos along decorated streets and enjoy the festivities at their own pace.

Make a Day of It: Shopping, Restaurants and Holiday Lights

One of the biggest appeals of Holiday Glow is its location.

Downtown Naperville has an established mix of independent boutiques, national retailers, restaurants, bakeries and cafes, with many businesses concentrated along pedestrian-friendly streets.

For families planning to attend on Black Friday, the celebration offers an opportunity to combine holiday shopping with an afternoon of free entertainment.

The downtown district is also home to the Naperville Riverwalk, a 1.75-mile public space along the West Branch of the DuPage River featuring brick paths, bridges, fountains and landscaped gathering areas.

During the holiday season, the area becomes a destination for evening walks and seasonal displays.

Downtown's trees and rooftops began lighting up for the 2026 holiday season on November 2, adding another festive backdrop for visitors.

Families can also explore NaperLights, a separate free holiday light display along Water Street, Foyo Plaza and the Riverwalk. The display is scheduled to run from November 26, 2026, through January 1, 2027.

That means visitors attending Holiday Glow can extend their outing with dinner, shopping or an evening walk through the illuminated downtown area.

Why Downtown Naperville Appeals to Residents and Relocation Buyers

Events like Holiday Glow highlight something that makes Downtown Naperville appealing beyond its shopping and restaurants: the ability to enjoy community activities within a walkable suburban setting.

Residents have access to local businesses, seasonal programming, public gathering spaces and the Riverwalk throughout the year.

For Chicago residents considering a move to the Western Suburbs, Downtown Naperville offers a different lifestyle from the city's denser neighborhoods while retaining access to restaurants, retail and community events.

Housing options in Naperville range from downtown-area condominiums and townhomes to detached single-family homes in surrounding residential neighborhoods.

Buyers considering the area should compare commute times, property taxes, housing costs and proximity to everyday amenities.

The downtown district also provides access to Naperville's Metra BNSF Line station, an important consideration for residents commuting toward Chicago.

Holiday Glow is a seasonal event, but the shopping streets, restaurants and public spaces that make the celebration possible are part of the community's everyday character.
