CHICAGO—Another busy summer weekend is approaching, with major street festivals, professional sports, cultural celebrations, outdoor theater, and family-friendly activities scheduled across Chicago and DuPage County.

Here are some of the best things to do from Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Northalsted Market Days Returns for Three Days

Northalsted Market Days takes over Halsted Street between Belmont Avenue and Addison Street from August 7 through August 9.

The half-mile festival features live music on four stages, more than 250 vendors, food and drinks, drag performances, dance exhibitions, and other entertainment throughout the weekend.

Festival hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. General entry has a $20 suggested donation, and the event is open to all ages.

Celebrate Chicago History at the Bud Billiken Parade

The 97th annual Bud Billiken Parade steps off at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 8, beginning at 39th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Bronzeville.

The free, family-friendly parade travels south to 51st Street before continuing into Washington Park, where the celebration includes vendors, performances, and back-to-school activities.

Visitors can expect marching bands, dance teams, floats, youth organizations, and a celebration of Chicago’s Black culture and South Side history. The parade and festival are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Watch the Chicago Sky Face the Indiana Fever

The Chicago Sky takes on the Indiana Fever at the United Center on Saturday, August 8.

Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with arena gates opening at 1 p.m. Fans should purchase tickets in advance and allow additional time for parking, security, and travel near the arena.

See the White Sox Host the Cleveland Guardians

The Chicago White Sox host the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game weekend series at Rate Field.

Games are scheduled for 6:40 p.m. Friday, 6:15 p.m. Saturday, and 1:10 p.m. Sunday. Saturday includes the planned retirement of Ozzie Guillén’s jersey, while Sunday features a Shoeless Joe Jackson bobblehead promotion, subject to availability and official promotional rules.

Play Lotería at The Morton Arboretum

Lotería Nights takes place at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8, from 5 to 8 p.m.

A bilingual host will lead the traditional Mexican game in English and Spanish using custom Arboretum-themed cards. Guests can compete for prizes, browse handmade goods, and purchase food and drinks between rounds.

The event is limited to guests 21 and older. Tickets are $45 for the public and $35 for Arboretum members.

Enjoy an Old-Fashioned Hometown Picnic in Naperville

Naper Settlement hosts its Hometown Picnic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 8.

Families can explore the museum’s 13-acre campus while enjoying lawn games, food, living-history demonstrations, exhibits, and activities focused on how communities have gathered throughout American history.

The event is included with regular admission to Naper Settlement.

Attend Naperville Neighborly Day

Naperville Neighborly Day brings a free community block party to West Chicago Avenue between Washington and Main streets from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 9.

The downtown event includes live music, food and drinks from local businesses, family-friendly entertainment, and opportunities to learn about efforts to help individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Admission is free, with event proceeds benefiting DuPagePads.

See Shakespeare Along a Woodland Trail

The Walking Plays series presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Morton Arboretum on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9.

Professional actors perform scenes at different outdoor locations along a guided 1.5-mile walking route. Performances begin at 6 p.m., last approximately 90 minutes, and are suitable for a wide range of ages, although the play contains some romantic situations and humor.

Advance tickets are recommended because attendance is limited.
