CTA Expands Bus Service to Connect Downtown Chicago to Obama Presidential Center
Public transit access on Chicago’s South Side is set to improve as the Chicago Transit Authority announces an expansion of its No. 10 bus route to serve the highly anticipated Obama Presidential Center.
The updated route will extend nearly a mile farther south, directly connecting riders to the new presidential campus, which is expected to open in June. The service change is designed to improve accessibility between downtown Chicago and major cultural destinations along the lakefront.
Currently, the No. 10 route operates as a seasonal express line between Water Tower Place and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. Beginning May 23, the route will be renamed the No. 10 Obama Presidential Center/Museum of Science & Industry Express and will operate year-round, rather than only during the summer months.
The CTA expects the expansion to significantly increase usage. Officials estimate daily ridership could triple to around 450 riders, reflecting growing demand for direct transit connections to the South Side’s cultural corridor.
Service on the route is planned to run approximately every 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., offering consistent access throughout the day for both residents and visitors.
For those searching for transportation to the Obama Presidential Center, the route expansion provides a new, convenient option linking downtown with Hyde Park and surrounding neighborhoods. It also supports broader efforts to improve transit access to key destinations as new developments and attractions come online.
The extension highlights how infrastructure is evolving alongside major projects like the Obama Presidential Center, helping ensure that increased tourism and local activity are supported by reliable public transit.
