Free Museum Day in Chicago: Chicago Children’s Museum and Museum of Ice Cream Offer Free Admission on Thursday
CHICAGO — Summer in Chicago is full of family-friendly ways to explore the city, and Thursday, June 25 brings a fun one-day opportunity for parents, kids, and visitors looking for a low-cost downtown outing.
As part of the Every Child Thrives Festival, the Chicago Children’s Museum at 700 E. Grand Ave. and the Museum of Ice Cream at 435 N. Michigan Ave. are offering free public admission for the day.
At the Chicago Children’s Museum on Navy Pier, families can explore hands-on exhibits, creative play spaces, interactive learning activities, and the museum’s newest fossil display featuring a replica skull from a recently discovered species of Spinosaurus. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., although advance free tickets have already sold out. A limited number of additional tickets may be available in person, so families should contact the museum before heading over.
The Museum of Ice Cream in Streeterville is also offering complimentary timed entry, with admission times available at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. Visitors can explore colorful, ice-cream-themed installations, photo moments, miniature golf, and the museum’s well-known sprinkle pool.
The free day is connected to the Every Child Thrives Festival, a three-day gathering in Hyde Park focused on youth leadership, imagination, creative collaboration, and stronger communities. Families do not need to attend the festival itself to take advantage of the museum's offer.
It is also a great reminder of why downtown Chicago works so well for families. In one afternoon, you can visit Navy Pier, walk the lakefront, explore Michigan Avenue, stop for lunch, and create a full city day around kid-friendly attractions.
Availability can change quickly, especially for day-of museum entry, so it is best to confirm details directly before leaving.
