One of Chicago’s most anticipated cultural landmarks is finally ready to open.
The Obama Presidential Center officially opens to the public on Friday, June 19, 2026, bringing a major new destination to Hyde Park and putting Chicago’s South Side in the national spotlight.
More than a traditional presidential library, the 19-acre campus is designed as a community-focused space centered around leadership, culture, history and public engagement.

Why This Opening Matters
The Obama Presidential Center is one of the most significant cultural investments Chicago has seen in years. Beyond tourism, the project is expected to reshape parts of the South Side through increased visitors, new infrastructure, and long-term economic activity.
And unlike many presidential libraries, this one was intentionally designed to function as an active community space, not just a historical archive.
