A closer look at one of the West Loop’s upcoming residential conversions is starting to take shape.

New interior renderings have been unveiled for Oxxford Lofts, a redevelopment at 1220 West Van Buren Street in West Loop. The project transforms the historic former Oxxford Clothes building into a modern residential property, blending loft-style architecture with updated amenities.

The latest images, designed by SITU Design, offer a preview of both unit interiors and shared spaces, highlighting how the building’s original structure is being adapted for contemporary living.

Inside the residential units, the design leans into the building’s industrial character while introducing more refined finishes. Expect open layouts, large windows and a mix of modern materials that complement the loft-style feel the West Loop has become known for.

Amenities are split across two main levels.

On the first floor, plans include a mix of more intimate and lifestyle-driven spaces such as a speakeasy-style lounge, a redesigned lobby and a library-style common area. These spaces are meant to create a more social and hospitality-driven entry experience.

Upstairs, the eighth floor, which is a new addition built above the original seven-story structure, will serve as the main amenity hub. That level is expected to include a fitness center, sauna, yoga room, golf simulator, co-working lounges, conference rooms and tenant gathering spaces.

The addition of a full amenity level is a notable upgrade, especially for a conversion project, where space is often more limited compared to ground-up developments.

Parking will be located in the basement level, maintaining the building’s exterior while adapting the interior to meet modern expectations.

This project is part of a growing trend across Chicago, particularly in neighborhoods like the West Loop, where older commercial and industrial buildings are being repositioned into residential use. With demand for housing remaining strong and fewer ground-up sites available, conversions like Oxxford Lofts are becoming a more common path forward.

What makes this one stand out is the balance. Instead of completely reworking the building, the design leans into its history while layering in the kind of amenities today’s renters expect.

As more details continue to be released, Oxxford Lofts is shaping up to be another example of how older buildings in the West Loop are being reimagined for a new generation of residents.
